SENIOR SCHOOLOVERVIEW

Achieving excellence

Melbourne Grammar's Senior School campus is centrally located in South Yarra, opposite the Royal Botanic Gardens, playing fields and parks. Senior students, some 780 day boys and boarders from Years 9 to 12, enjoy the most up to date learning facilities housed in historic, bluestone buildings.

The School is five minutes from the city centre and 30 minutes from Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport. We are well serviced by all forms of public transport which students use daily. There is easy access to the city's main cultural and sporting venues.

Highly qualified and experienced teachers offer a challenging educational program, both core subjects and a wealth of choice in extra-curricular activities on and off campus.

The main organisational units at Senior School are the Houses which are intimate pastoral care communities for students through their years here. Each boy joins a House - there are two for boarders and ten for day boys - and is supported by a Head of House and House Tutors. The School regards the House system as its most important and effective means of promoting growth and development of the individual child.

We emphasise the links between learning and leadership and all students are given leadership experiences in class, teams, clubs, activities and especially in their Houses. Senior boys help the Heads of House and Prefects assist in the organisation of each day. Ealry in 2008 we opened the new state-of-the-art Nigel Peck Centre for Learning and Leadership on our Domain Road boundary.

Life at Senior School is designed to help students become self-reliant, capable young adults able to navigate the challenges of tertiary study and vocational choice. We trust that our boys will become valued members of an increasingly global community and will recognise their own intrinsic value as individuals.
