Melbourne Grammar School’s
Big Birthday Bash
EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! The Sesqui - delivered to your door every 150 years! This whole school event will have a festival atmosphere where the School community, their families and friends will gather to celebrate the last 150 years as well as looking to the future of Melbourne Grammar School. With special guest appearances, entertainment, food and culminating in a spectacular fireworks display – this will be the big event that all Grammar community members will want to attend. With media personality and school parent James Brayshaw as our MC, guests can sit back and relax to a wonderful line-up of jazz coordinated by The Big 150 Musical Director and Head of Woodwind, Rob Glaesemann, as well as performances by popular gig band, The Hills, featuring Old Melburnians (OM) Doug Milledge and Simon Thompson, sketches from well known actor and comedian, OM Michael Veitch and a special performance by an illusionist, OM Simon Coronel. Test your courage (and your stomach) on the Cha Cha, the Bucking Bull or one of the many other rides available on the day. Art enjoys a strong focus at Melbourne Grammar and The Big 150 x 150 Art Show is no exception. The Art Show will feature works by well-known artists, as well as entries from a wide cross-section of the Grammar community. All the artworks will be available for sale on the day. Sesquicentenary wines are being produced by two of our Grammar families who have enjoyed a long association with the School – the Shelmerdine family from Mitchelton Wines and the Purbrick family from Tahbilk. Guests will be able to taste and order the Sesquicentenary wines at The Big 150 x 150 Art Show. Catering at this event will be supplied exclusively by The Big Group. Community members will be able to buy a range of food and drinks with something to tempt the palate of all ages. A percentage of proceeds from the sale of tickets to The Big 150 will be donated to the student-run environmental group, Sustainable Living Improvement Committee (SLIC). SLIC was formed and is run by students in order to improve the School’s environmental impact. Past fundraising activities spearheaded by the Committee have raised money for the installation of rainwater tanks and solar panels, to retrofit compact fluorescent lights, sensors and timers in the School and much more. |
